A native of Philadelphia, Mr. Galiè holds a B.S. - B.A., Boston University (Music /Computer Science); J. D. (Juris Doctor) Boston University School of Law; and a M. Mus., The Boston Conservatory/Berklee School of Music (Orchestral & Choral Conducting, Organ).  His primary orchestral conducting teacher and mentor was Atilio Poto, at The Boston Conservatory/Berklee School of Music. Maestro Poto was one of the primary protégés of Léon Barzin. Mr. Galiè’s principal performing instrument, in addition to choral and ballet/opera/orchestral conducting, is classical pipe organ, especially in collaborative settings such as symphony orchestras, chamber music for organ and various instruments, and with choruses. Mr. Galiè has homes and citizenships both in the U.S.A. (Boston) and Europe (Germany (Munich, Bavaria) and Italy (Ascoli Piceno, Le Marche)). He is completely fluent in English and Italian, with working abilities in Spanish and German. In the summer of 2019 he is moving with his wife, Dr. Franziska Galiè, to be based in Germany, returning frequently to Boston, Italy, and beyond for musical engagements. Currently Mr. Galiè is active in 1. -Collaboratively performing on organ/harpsichord/positive organ/harmonium/and celesta with various symphony orchestras, including Boston Symphony Orchestra, 1996-2003 2. -Choral conducting (Massachusetts Institute of Technology Women’s Chorale 2008-2019) 3. -Italian opera conducting (Coro-Dante 2007-2019) 4. -Ballet conducting, most notably his recent recordings conducting his orchestrations/editions of Le Corsaire & Laurentia (2011); Sleeping Beauty (Prologue variations and Third Act) & La Bayadére (2017). See discography for all of Mr. Galiè’s recordings. Mr. Galiè was music director and orchestral conductor for the Harvard-Radcliffe Ballet Company (1990-2000). In 2018, his ballet orchestration of Le Corsaire was presented to critical acclaim by the ballet company of Teatro alla Scala in Milano and in 2019 at Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, NBS/Tokyo Ballet, and Beijing. In 2008, he was orchestral arranger and assistant conductor at the Rome Opera with Carla Fracci for Le Corsaire, and in 2010 he did an alternate version with Maria Grazia Garofolo for the Arena di Verona. Mr. Galiè’s most notable ballet re-orchestration collaborations have been with the legendary ballerina and re-constructor/choreographer of Russian ballets in the West, Ms. Anna-Marie Holmes. Ms. Holmes is arguably the most prolific artistic successor to one of the greatest figures in ballet history, her mentor Natalia Dudinskaya (Kirov). Mr. Galiè’s re-orchestrations (most often in collaboration with Anna-Marie Holmes) have recently been performed at the American Ballet Theatre of New York City, and in Uruguay, Brazil, Hong Kong, Istanbul, Belgium, and Budapest to name a few. His orchestration of La Bayadère, heard in Portugal in 2016, received reviews of “explosions of ecstasy in sound from the Orchestra Pit” (“Toda a magia do bailado com La Bayadère” Jornalismo Independente, 10 Dezembro, 2016). Mr. Galiè has a vast portfolio of compositions and arrangements for choral music (especially women’s chorus, SSAA and Italian operatic choruses and Italian folk music arranged for chorus) ballet music and ballet piano rehearsal scores, and sacred music. |
